After picking up this book for the bargain price of £1.99 in the UK (think my original copy must be in the loft of my UK house) I made a couple of curries in the last week.

First one was a madras following the book religiously and was a bit bland and tasteless.

Second attempt was a Dopiaza, with the amount of spices doubled and some dried chilies in addition to double the chilli powder.  Was fantastic even if I do say so myself!

The only ingredient I am missing is Fenugreek leaves, has anyone seen them for sale, I saw the seeds in one of the Asian grub shops in Stuttgart, but no leaves.

Fenugreek leaves are an essential, they give dishes that classic "curry" aroma. I've never seen them fresh.
You can get the seeds no problem but personally I find them a bit bitter, much better is to use the dried leaves
which are known as "Methi" The leaves are dried and shredded although I prefer to grind them in an electric spice
mill until it is a fine powder. This is the brand I usuall get

Kasoori Methi

Do you mail order them or have a local supply?

There are some on ebay which seem reasonable prices until you add delivery!

I'm popping down into the village later today so I'll have a look in that Asia shop for you. I'm assuming it's kasuri/ kasoori/ kasturi methi or Bockshornklee(blätter) you're after.

There seem to be a few links here too.

Good work reginald, those are indeed what I require.

No hurry tho, sauce is now frozen for next usage, you may indeed get an invite.

Neither Beta or the little backstreet one near your old office had them.

I get them from my local Asia Laden, but sadly only dried, if you do get them fresh you could freeze what you don't use which is what I do with fresh coriander.

No luck, bud. They'd got the seeds but no leaves. She knew what I was on about though because she said "Indian cooking?"

Good find !

Have ordered some online now, only 2.95 delivered.

Wouldnt surprise me if that place on the marker does have them though, they have everything, but very very expensive.

We got a load of curry ingredients in our veggie box last week: lemon grass, garlic, ginger, kurkuma (the fresh root - never seen that before), red n yellow chilis. Whizzed it all up in the blender, added some cumin, and it's spot on  clap

Shame we can only make very mild curries (cos of the kids) - I fancy a bit of oomph now and again. I'll have to try one of Bully's sometime.
